EFRO Medical Device Development Toolbox Project
Baat Medical and Witec Innovating Together are jointly investing €1.25 million in the development of an innovative process for medical devices: the Medical Device Development Toolbox (MedBox). This project is supported by a substantial grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Challenge in Northern Netherlands
The Northern Netherlands boasts extensive academic and clinical expertise in the field of medical devices. Despite this strong potential, the region lacks a specialized manufacturing industry and infrastructure to fully capitalize on this knowledge. By combining the expertise of Baat Medical and Witec, we are laying the groundwork for a new medical device manufacturing industry, aimed at both the regional and global markets.
What is the MedBox?
The MedBox project aims to address the current issue by redesigning the product and process validation approach in an entirely new way. We are developing a method where validations, known as "building blocks," are made available to other players in the industry. This is a completely new approach, unique in the world.
Accelerating the Validation Process
MedBox will significantly accelerate the validation process for medical devices and reduce costs. This increases the likelihood of successfully commercializing innovations, allowing new medical devices to reach the market faster and more efficiently.
Support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The ERDF plays a key role in achieving the goals of the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS3). The grant for this project is funded by the European Union and is regionally distributed by the Northern Netherlands Alliance (SNN).
